Athletics:
Salute to Seniors – All CMA Senior Athletes from the fall and winter sports will be honored at the game along with their parents. Tuesday game will be “Senior Day”. A small reception will follow the game for senior athletes, parents, staff and administrators. The seniors also chose to honor Breast Cancer Survivors as well. Please come out and salute our seniors for their last home game. Spring Sports Conditioning – All students are still welcome to participate in the spring sports conditioning programs. In order to participate, each student must have a physical on file in the Athletic Office for the 2009-2010 school year. You must also have a 2.0 G.P.A. from the January 2010 cardmarking. All transfer students must see Ms. Turner for clearance. After School Incidents Unbecoming of an Athlete – Any student involved in any illegal activity will forfeit his or her athletic season. Any athlete involved in a fight during an athletic contest will also forfeit his or her athletic season. Depending on the incident itself, it may also cost the team that they play on their season as well. We are not all going to agree on everything. We are all not going to see the same situation in the same manner. Let’s agree to disagree and move on. Fighting is not worth your whole season, nor is it worth the season of your teammates. Athletic Eligibility Audit – All DPS School Athletic Departments will be going through an Eligibility Audit. Additional forms will be sent home with each child participating in a winter or spring sport. The packet must be completed in order for each child to participate. Additional information will be sent as soon as the packet is completely assembled. This is a district mandate. February 23rd , 2010

Schedule Adjustments: June 1st, 2009 9th Grade Summer School Meeting: CMA will host a meeting for 9th grade parents for the upcoming 9th Grade Success Academy being held this summer. This informational meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2009, in the lunchroom. This is a great opportunity for 9th graders who need to make up, one- three classes this summer. Spaces for the program will be on a first come, first serve basis. Summer Kaplan ACT summer classes:CMA is also conducting Kaplan ACT Prep Classes this summer. This program is being offered to current 10th and 11th grade students. A parent meeting for this program will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in the CMA lunchroom. Spaces for this program are limited. Credit Summer School:There have been changes in the locations for the high school site offering credit summer school. The locations are as follows: Cass, Central, Denby, DIA (the old Northern H.S.), Henry Ford, King, Mumford, Northwestern, Osborn, Western and newly added Cody 9 (not Cody H.S.) We also are reminding parents and students that for credit summer school is only free for Title I students (students only receive free or reduced lunch) needing core classes. All other students must pay $200.00 per class. Final Exams:CMA students will take final exams on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 hrs. 1, 2 & 3, and Wednesday, June 3, 2009 hrs. 4, 5 & 6 . Both days will be ½ days for students. Dismissal will be 11:00 a.m. both days. Textbook Return: All student textbooks will be collected during final exams. Students who do not return textbooks must pay for their textbook. Students who do not return textbooks and do not pay for them will not receive their report card and their academic records will be placed on “hold”. Late Start on June 9, 2009:Due to the district’s paycheck distribution procedures to uncover payroll fraud, CMA will start school on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. Doors will open for students at 9:00 a.m. The reason for this time change is that all of the CMA staff must pick up their paychecks at a location other than CMA between 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. on 6/9/09. CMA is not the only school scheduled to pick up their checks at this time and location. We apologize in advance for this inconvenience. Parent Workshops:We’d like to thank all of the parents who participated in the Texas Instruments Parents Technology Workshops. The workshops were fun and informational. A great time was had by all. No School for Graduation Ceremony:There will be no school for students on Monday, June 8, 2009 due to graduation. School will resume on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. Athletics: Basketball Shootout:All 10th and 11th grade boys’ interested in playing in the 10th vs. 11th grade basketball shootout on 6/11/09 (during school). Please see Coach Harris today in Rm. 206 to put your teams roster together. Baseball/Softball – Congratulations to the boys’ baseball team and the girls’ softball team for making it to the district championship last Saturday. Both teams eventually lost in the championship game, but managed to win two games prior to the championship. Track – Congratulations to Deonte Pope and Darryl Rouse for making All-State in track. Deonte qualified as All-State through the 800 meter & mile run. Darryl qualified through the long jump. Way to Go Pharaohs! Seniors Clearance Forms – All equipment used during the season must be turned in before Ms. Turner can sign your clearance forms. Coaches will then submit clearances for each sport. Once clearance is received, each clearance form will gladly be signed.
May 26th, 2009 Final Parent T.I. Workshop:The final session of the three part T.I. Parent Workshop series will be this Saturday, May 30, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Parents who have attended the workshops received an excellent overview of how the T.I. 84 Plus Calculator and the T.I. Navigator System will improve instruction in Math and Science next year. Light snacks will be served. Parents who attended the T.I. series will receive graduation gifts on Saturday. Summer School:Title I students (students who receive free or reduced lunch) who have failed core classes in the past will be able to attend for Credit Summer School at no cost. Students may take up to three classes. For credit summer school will be conducted in the following high schools: Cass, Cody, Detroit International Academy, Denby, Henry Ford, King, Mumford, Northwestern, Osborn and Western. Non Title I students will be required to pay $200.00 per class. CMA will tentatively offer two summer programs: A 9th grade Success Academy and ACT Prep classes. CMA 9th grade students who are eligible for the program will receive a letter by mail the first week in June. There will be a meeting of 9th grade parents whose children’s are eligible for the program, the date for this meeting will be in the letter. The ACT Prep classes will be offered to current 10th and 11th grade students who will be taking the ACT Exam during the next school year. CMA 10th grade students who did not do well on the recent retired ACT Exam given on May 19, 2009, will be strongly encouraged to attend these classes. 10th Grade ACT Exam:Over 100 10th grade students took the retired ACT exam on May 19, 2009. We should receive the results of this test early in June. The results of this exam will assist the CMA instructional staff in developing strategies to help all of our students score well on the ACT next year. However, there are approximately twenty students who did not take the retired exam. We need the test data from all of our 10th grade students. Those students who did not take the exam will be given the exam after final exams. Letters to the parents of these students will be sent in the mail by the end of the week. Last Day
